What is Filipinx American History Month (FAHM)?
Filipinx American History Month is celebrated in October to commemorate the INVISIBLE HISTORY (1763-1963) of Filipinx in America. FANHS (Filipino American National History Society) celebrated the first-ever Filipinx American History Month in October 1992.
However, it wasn’t until 2009, the U.S. officially recognized October as Filipinx American History Month.
*Filipinx is a gender-inclusive term, especially for those who don’t feel they fall in Filipino or Filipina!
As Filipinx, we not only celebrate but use this month to deeply reflect on our rich cultural history.

- The Debut (2001) is a movie concentrated on Filipinx-American culture.

Learn your Filipinx dialect!
- Tagalog, Ilocano, Bikol to name a few
Did you know the Philippines is composed of over 170 languages?
Within that, having 8 major dialects—one of them being Tagalog!

Magandang umaga = Good morning!
Kamusta ka = How are you?
Salamat = Thank you.
Ingat ka = Take care!
Ay nako! = Oh my gosh!
Mahal kita = I love you.

In 1587, Filipinx were the first Asians to arrive in the United States.
Filipinx-Americans were the first to strike during the Delano grape strike of September 1965.
Filipinx are the 2nd largest Asian American community.
Filipinx played a significant role in various historical advocacy movement, specifically during the 60’s fight for ethnic studies in San Francisco.
